Emergency shelters are often the first step for Survivors who are seeking to Flee from abuse. Often Emergency shelters are a lifeline for many survivors.
Every shelter program may include the following:
A variety of support and are available 24-hours a day, every day of the year, to ensure women can access immediate protection and support as needed.
Basic material needs, such as hygiene products, clothing and meals.
Safe , confidential and secure accommodations .
Risk assessment and safety planing during and after the shelter stay.
Individual counseling to support each Survivor in achieving their goals in overcoming long term effects of violence and all barriers to self sufficiency/ independent living.
Addressing challenges women may be experiencing such as trauma, substance abuse, mental health issues, i.e
Assistance with legal and court preparations and accompaniment or referrals to legal protection and medical services.
Assistance in finding and accessing economic opportunities.
Counseling and related support for children to address the effects they experienced from the violence
Some Pet accommodations are available on or off site. Close to 52% of Survivors in shelters have to leave their pets with their abusers.
